Summer EBT
Michigan Summer EBT is a program to help families buy food for their school-aged children during the summer. Families will get $120 for each eligible child to buy groceries during the summer. Children who get Michigan Summer EBT can still participate in other summer meal programs.
Some families will get Summer EBT benefits automatically, but some families will need to apply. Families must meet the income and program requirements to be eligible. Applying for or receiving Summer EBT does not affect the immigration status of your children or family.

*Medicaid with income at or below 185% of the federal poverty level
**Michigan School Meals is a state-funded reimbursement program that provides all pre-K through grade 12 students attending a public-school, public-school academy, or an intermediate school district (ISD) with breakfast and lunch at no cost to the families. This does not automatically qualify your child for the Summer EBT benefit. Only children in households at or below 185% of the Federal poverty guidelines are eligible for Summer EBT even if the State in which they live provides meals at no charge to children in households above 185% of the poverty threshold. Children must be individually determined to be eligible for free or reduced-price school meal benefits during the instructional year immediately preceding the summer operational period or during the summer operational period. Children in CEP schools will need to be categorically eligible (foster care, homeless, a migrant, or a runaway) or complete a Summer EBT application.
What is the income limit?
Summer EBT income limit is 185% of the Federal Poverty Level. Your income must be less than or equal to the limit shown for your household size. Your household includes all adults and children in the home.
How do I apply for Summer EBT benefits?
You may apply online SOMPortal - MI Bridges . A paper application will be available soon. You must meet the income and program guidelines to be eligible. Only children enrolled in a school that participates in the National School Lunch Program or School Breakfast Program can qualify through an application.
Do the benefits expire?
The Summer EBT benefit, in their entirety, must be used within 122 days after the issuance date. The issuance date is the date the benefit was added to the card. Regardless of if they were partially used or recently used, after 122 days the benefit will be expunged. Expunged benefits shall not be reinstated. If a household does not receive its benefits timely (for example, delays with the mail), MDHHS is not obligated to restart the 122-day expungement timeline when the participant reports that the card was received.
