Behavioral Health Loan Repayment Program (BHLRP) Overview

The MDHHS Behavioral Health Loan Repayment Program (BHLRP), previously known as the MI Kids Now Loan Repayment Program (MKN LRP), is a medical education debt repayment program focused on incentivizing behavioral health care providers to practice in underserved areas in Michigan. Eligible providers will receive student loan repayment for providing mental health services in eligible nonprofit, outpatient practice sites, or public school-based systems. The program has a two-year service obligation.

2025 BHLRP Program Cycle

The 2025 [FY26] Application Cycle will open on Monday, March 3rd, 2025, and will now close on Friday, March 28th, 2025.

PLEASE NOTE: Eligibility criteria, application instructions, and selection process for the 2025 Cycle of the Behavioral Health Loan Repayment Program have now changed. Please review all program materials below for further information.

FOR 2025 APPLICANTS: In addition to submission of application materials through the State of Michigan’s (SOM) File Transfer Area System, applicants must complete a digital questionnaire through our 2025 [FY26] BHLRP Online Application System. The questionnaire, along with access to the File Transfer Area, will open at 12AM EST on Monday, March 3rd, 2025, and will close at 11:59PM EST on Friday, March 28th, 2025.
