Occupational TB Screening
- The CDC updated their recommendations for testing and screening healthcare workers for TB in 2019: TB Screening, Testing, and Treatment of U.S. Health Care Personnel: Recommendations from the NTCA and CDC, CDC 2019 MMWR (update to the 2005 MMWR)
- TB Screening, Testing, and Treatment of US Health Care Personnel; ACOEM and NTCA Joint Task Force on Implementation of the 2019 MMWR Recommendations: guidance statement/companion document to the updated CDC guidelines from the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) and National Tuberculosis Controllers Association (NTCA).
- MDHHS summary of the 2019 recommendations can be found here.
- The original 2005 recommendations can be found here: Guidelines for Preventing the Transmission of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Healthcare Settings, CDC 2005 MMWR. They are still very useful for conducting TB facility risk assessments and for infection prevention information.
- For epidemiology information to complete your facility risk assessment, please go to the Michigan TB epidemiology page.
- Visit the CDC TB Screening and Testing of Health Care Personnel page for more information and resources, including a description of the options for baseline testing.
- Per the updated CDC recommendations, MDHHS recommends that you use the following tools for pre-employment TB testing or annual screening. The tools open as Word document downloads which you can edit to create your own. If you do edit them, please remove the MDHHS logo.
