GUIDELINES AND ALGORITHMS:
CDC Recommendations for Hepatitis C Testing
Updated Operational Guidance for Implementing CDC's Recommendations on Testing for Hepatitis C Virus Infection New guidance from CDC recommends collecting samples at a single visit, and conducting automatic HCV RNA testing on all HCV antibody reactive samples. The use of strategies requiring multiple visits to collect samples for hepatitis C testing should be discontinued.
ACOG Clinical Practice Guideline "Viral Hepatitis in Pregnancy" this ACOG clinical practice guideline recommends routine, universal screening early in each pregnancy for hepatitis B and hepatitis C, and when possible, pre-pregnancy hepatitis C screening is recommended in accordance with the recommendation for screening at least once in all adults. ACOG recommends pregnant patients who screen positive for hepatitis C infection during pregnancy are connected with hepatitis care so they can begin treatment postpartum and after completion of lactation, and to connect patients who test positive for hepatitis C before pregnancy to treatment so they can complete treatment before becoming pregnant.
