The Family Center for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (Family Center)

Welcome to the Family Center for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (Family Center)! The Family Center is the statewide parent-directed center within Children’s Special Health Care Services (CSHCS) Division and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).

Who We Are

The Family Center is staffed by individuals with personal experience as a parent or family member of a child with special health care needs and understand the day-to-day challenges families may face. They are dedicated to helping others along this journey of raising a child with special health care needs. Family Center staff are a resource that families can turn to for support, information, education, and encouragement.

Who We Serve

The Family Center serves all families of children and youth with special health care needs.

This includes families of children who have or are at increased risk for physical, behavioral, developmental, and emotional conditions. Children are not required to be enrolled in CSHCS to receive services or support from the Family Center.

Family Leadership Network (FLN)

The Family Leadership Network is a partnership between Michigan Family to Family Health Information Center and the Family Center for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs. The FLN is a network of family leaders created out of the common need to obtain diverse perspectives from families across the State of Michigan.

Parents of children with special health care needs have a lot of experience navigating different systems. This knowledge is valuable and can help create a better understanding of what families experience with healthcare and other systems. The Family Leadership Network provides input on programs and special projects, and shares information about resources with other families in their area. They also participate in ongoing learning opportunities to help them develop as family leaders.

The Family Leadership Network accepts applications on an ongoing basis, based on open spots. If you are interested in applying, please visit:
