MDOT seeking public comment on proposed M-89 bridge work in Battle Creek
March 25, 2025
Battle Creek, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) invites the public to comment on the planned 2026 project to replace the bridge beams and deck on the M-89 (Washington Avenue) bridge over the Battle Creek River in Battle Creek. To complete the bridge work, MDOT is proposing to obtain a 0.3-acre parcel of permanent right of way along the northwest corner of the M-89/Jackson Street intersection.
During work, local streets will be detoured with a temporary detour of the Battle Creek Linear Park Trail. Pedestrians will be detoured to the north side of Michigan Avenue and then south on Kendall Street. The project also will require temporary closures of the areas under the M-89 bridge at the railroad tracks for construction access.
Public input is being sought to help recognize and address any concerns that may result from any impacts on the adjacent properties during construction per a proposed de minimis impact finding under Section 4(f) of U.S. Department of Transportation Act of 1966.
Please submit public comments by Monday, April 7, 2025, using the online comment form or by mail, email or phone to MDOT Public Involvement Specialist and Hearings Officer Monica Monsma at MonsmaM@Michigan.gov or:
