Digital Delivery

Why Digital Delivery matters?

Technology is advancing quickly, driving innovation, efficiency, and cost savings across industries—including transportation. In bridge and roadway construction, digital tools are transforming how projects are planned, designed, built, and maintained.

Digital delivery streamlines these processes by integrating technology and data management, leading to lower costs, better collaboration, and higher-quality, more sustainable infrastructure.

Key benefits

Reduces paperwork, accelerates workflows, minimizes delays, and improves resource management.

Enables real-time monitoring, predictive analysis, and smarter infrastructure planning.

Connects partners through shared digital platforms for seamless project execution.

Reduces errors, rework, and material waste while supporting eco-friendly infrastructure.

Projects

M-53 over Greenman Creek in Sanilac County

MDOT plans to let their second Digital Delivery pilot in September 2025. The contract documents will be a 3D Building Information Modeling (BIM) model in place of a 2D plan set for all proposed work including roadway and structures. The pilot is the replacement of a single bridge, M-53 over Greenman Creek, and associated road work in Greenleaf Township, Sanilac County. The project length is 0.1 miles. The proposed structure is a precast box culvert with the option to cast in place. All design information will be accessible through the model as 3D or 2D information or as supplemental documents accessible from the model such as pdfs and spreadsheet.
