April 23, 2025
EVART, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is hosting a public meeting on Thursday, May 1, to discuss next year's planned $13 million investment to rebuild 1.4 miles of US-10 between 100th Avenue and the Muskegon River in the city of Evart. MDOT officials will provide current project details, scheduling information and expected traffic impacts. The public is invited to stop by anytime during the meeting to learn more about the project, provide comments and ask questions.
"Across Michigan, we are moving dirt and fixing the damn roads to grow our economy, helping Michiganders go to work, drop their kids off at school and run errands safely," said Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. "By the end of this construction season, we will have fixed, repaired or replaced nearly 24,500 lane miles of roads and 1,900 bridges, supporting thousands of good-paying, local jobs without raising taxes by a dime. This year, let's build on our momentum to pass a bipartisan local road funding plan so we can keep fixing our damn roads and creating good-paying, local jobs."

Project information:
The project includes replacing the storm sewer outlet from US-10 that currently flows underground along Hemlock Street. The final portion of the storm sewer system would be converted from an enclosed pipe to an open ditch. This portion runs through existing city property south of 8th Street/Railroad Avenue, from which MDOT will seek a permanent drainage easement. The building of a new ditch will improve water quality for Twin Creek and create more storage for Twin Creek floodwaters. Instead of a direct connection, stormwater would flow through the 4-foot ditch and over a rocky berm before entering Twin Creek.
Public input is being accepted now to help recognize and address any concerns that may result from any impacts on the adjacent properties during construction per a proposed de minimis impact finding under Section 4(f) of U.S. Department of Transportation Act of 1966.
