MEDDRUN and CHEMPACK
MEDDRUN
What is MEDDRUN?
The Michigan Emergency Drug Delivery Resource Utilization Network (MEDDRUN) is a state asset of the strategically placed cyanide, nerve agent (NA) and organophosphate antidotes.
Purpose
MEDDRUN is intended to bridge the gaps between local, state, and federal supply systems, like the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS), in the event of a major mass casualty incident which requires immediate pharmaceutical intervention.
Stats
- 50 cyanide/NA/organophosphate casualties.
- Ideally deployable in one hour.
CHEMPACK
What is CHEMPACK?
CHEMPACK is a supplemental federal resource of strategically placed nerve agent (NA) and organophosphate antidotes.
Learn more about CHEMPACK on the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response - CHEMPACK web page.
Purpose
CHEMPACK is intended to complement federal supply systems, like the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS), in the event of a major mass casualty incident involving nerve agents or organophosphates, which requires immediate pharmaceutical intervention.
Stats
- 454 NA/organophosphate casualties (EMS cache - primarily intended for emergency responder use at the scene of an incident).
- 1,000 NA/organophosphate casualties (hospital cache - primarily intended for hospital use).
- Deployable in one to three hours.
Symptoms of Nerve Agent Exposure
To remember the symptoms of nerve agent exposure, the mnemonic, SLUDGEM, may be useful.
S - salivation
L - lacrimation (tears)
U - urination
D - defecation/diarrhea
G - GI upset (cramps)
E - emesis (vomiting)
M -muscle twitching or spasm and miosis (pupil constriction)
