MDHHS seeks applicants to provide mobile crisis services
January 15, 2025
LANSING, Mich. – As part of efforts to expand behavioral health services for Michigan families, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has issued a competitive Grant Funding Opportunity (GFO) for crisis response initiatives that would establish or expand community-based mobile crisis intervention services statewide.
The purpose of this program is to increase behavioral health crisis services across the state for all Michigan residents, regardless of location, diagnosis or insurance status. The intention of this grant opportunity is to allow agencies to implement new community-based crisis response initiatives and build capacity for new and existing programs.
Funds can be used to develop and deploy 24/7 crisis response services, which are an alternative to going to the emergency room. This may be a two-person mobile crisis team or other alternative response models as a portion of 24/7 service provision. Services must be provided in the community wherever an individual is experiencing a crisis and may include screening, assessment, de-escalation, stabilization and coordination with and referrals to health, social and other services and supports as needed.
This opportunity is open to any applicable local public entity, including federally recognized tribal governments and local health departments.
The initial grant period is from April 1, 2025, to Sept. 30, 2025, with a total of $1.8 million available. Successful applicants will be awarded up to $225,000.
Continuation awards of up to $775,000 per applicant will be available for Oct. 1, 2025, to Sept. 30, 2027. The total amount available per applicant is $1 million. MDHHS anticipates issuing up to seven awards.
Grant applications must be submitted electronically through the EGrAMS system by 3 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11.
A pre-application conference will be held to discuss this funding opportunity and provide instruction on using the EGrAMS system at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, and will last approximately 90 minutes. The conference can be accessed at https://bit.ly/4fMk3fq.
For more information or to apply, visit the EGrAMS website and select "About EGrAMS" link in the left panel to access the "Competitive Application Instructions" training manual. The complete RFP can be accessed under the ‘Current Grants’ section under the “Specialty Behavioral Health Services” link and selecting the “MCCR-2025” grant program.
