Overview

Thank you for your interest in Michigan’s Nurse Loan Repayment Program (NLRP). NLRP helps non-profit employers recruit and retain nurses by providing loan repayment to those entering NLRP service obligations. NLRP service obligations require participants to provide full-time nursing services in not-for-profit practice sites or nursing instruction at a Michigan School of Nursing for two years. NLRP will assist those selected by providing up to $300,000 in tax-free funds to repay their educational debt over a period of up to ten years, or four years for nurses employed by a state psychiatric facility. Participants will enter consecutive two-year NLRP service obligations requiring them to remain employed for a minimum of 40 hours per week for no less than 45 weeks per year at eligible nonprofit practice sites providing nursing services, or full-time if employed by a Michigan School of Nursing or public school.  NLRP loan repayment agreements are funded by the state and are appropriated by the Michigan Legislature.

The material on this website will give you an understanding of NLRP sufficient to determine whether you are eligible, how to apply, and the amount of NLRP payment you may receive if awarded an agreement.

Please review the NLRP Opportunity Announcement for information on current or upcoming application periods. Then, carefully study the remainder of the information to learn about program requirements, eligible nurse types, loan repayment amounts, selection criteria, and application requirements.

If you have questions regarding the program, please contact Juliette Rousseau at RousseauJ@michigan.gov.
