Drug Courts: Meeting the Challenge and Improving Outcomes
Wednesday, April 08, 2015

We would like to invite you to an upcoming regional training being offered to the Upper Peninsula-area Drug Courts and Tribal Healing to Wellness Courts, entitled: Drug Courts: Meeting the Challenge and Improving Outcomes. The training will occur May 5-6, 2015 at the Kewadin Casino in Sault Ste. Marie, MI.
(Click here for a printable PDF of the images above.)
This training stems from a request to bring national Drug Court/Healing to Wellness Court trainers and materials to a region bustling with drug courts, but often neglected amongst regional training locations.
This training will be free, and include major drug court topics such as best practices, community supervision, treatment models, and sanctions and incentives. In addition, the training will include more nuanced topics such as working with women, young male participants, and Native participants, and opportunities for tribal-state collaboration.
The training will be geared towards currently operational courts, including primarily adult drug courts, but also juvenile, family, and DUI courts. Additionally, the training is geared towards both state drug courts and tribal healing to wellness courts. We greatly encourage all team members of a drug court/healing to wellness court to attend together, as this will maximize the benefits of the training. However, we are eager to engage any and all interested stakeholders and community members.
This training is being put on in collaboration by the National Drug Court Institute (NDCI) and the Tribal Law and Policy Institute (TLPI). Both NDCI and TLPI are technical assistance providers for drug courts. Both organizations are recipients of federal grants, which allow us to provide these trainings free of charge.
