State Court Administrative Office (SCAO) presents an opportunity for training in: Child Welfare Essentials Training - A Local Training Opportunity For Benzie, Clare, Lake, Mason, Manistee, Mecosta, Newaygo, Oceana And Osceola Counties
 

When: August 1, 2014 -- 8:30am to 4:30pm
Where: West Shore Community College, Administrative and Conference Building -- 3000 N Stiles Road, Scottville, MI 49454
Meeting Room: ABC Café

This training will provide participants with an overview of the legal framework governing child protective proceedings, including the applicable statutes, court rules, and DHS policy. Participants will learn the procedural rules, time guidelines, and legal standards applicable to each hearing, as well as receive best practice tips. In the afternoon, participants will learn about the federal Title IV-E regulations governing foster care funding and their impact on child welfare practice. The day will conclude with a session on strategies for drafting effective petitions and reports, as well as providing courtroom testimony. This training is intended to be collaborative and bring together legal advocates, caseworkers, and other local child welfare professionals to learn and discuss issues in child welfare practice.

Target Audience: Jurists, parent attorneys, prosecutors, LGALs, MDHHS, private agency partners, and tribes from the following counties: Benzie, Clare, Lake, Mason, Manistee, Mecosta, Newaygo, Oceana, and Osceola.

THERE IS NO REGISTRATION FEE FOR THIS TRAINING.
The training is generously funded by the Michigan Court Improvement Program and the Governor’s Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect. Due to grant restrictions, we are unable to provide snacks. Food is permitted in the Conference Center so please plan accordingly. Travel, meals, and lodging expenses are the responsibility of the participant.
