  • Met with Starfish Head Start to discuss lead screenings and DUA
  • Coordinated meeting with Calebria Webb (Wayne County Lead Education and Outreach Coordinator) to discuss collaboration on Lead Education for parents
  • Received Parent Meeting dates for United Children and Families Services Head Starts
  • Received quotes for outreach items for children and parents

Partnership engagement

  • HSAC – Head Start Advisory Committee
    • Presented project overview to 30 members
  • Attended -- United Children and Family Head Start Planning and Evaluation Committee
    • Head Start evaluation strategy and available data through Child Plus
    • Learned about their data collection and survey tools
  • Hosted Head Start Directors meeting at the Detroit Health Department
    • Presented overview to five large Head Start Entities
    • Provided findings from pilot phase of project
    • Shared draft of Data Use Agreement/MOU with senior-level staff
  • Met with Home Based Early Head Start to strategize on how to reach the 0-3 Head Start population
  • Met with other collaborative partners
    • Wayne CHAP
    • Covenant Care
    • Advantage Health Centers
    • Other health department services (Immunizations, Vision & Hearing, etc)
  • University of Michigan and Western University – interns helped work on developing program materials such as modules and project promotion materials
  • MDHHS – meeting with Program Managers for Lead, WIC, Vision and Health and Children Special Healthcare Services and informed them about the CLEEC grant program goals and cross training of staff

Activities - include successes & barriers

  • Training on lead testing
    • Cross-trained staff provided through grant re-trained WIC staff on lead testing
  • Created education modules; pilot tested materials at one Head Start
  • Created promotional materials
  • Created policies and procedures for project
  • Identified potential giveaways for children (be more specific next month)

 

June 2018

-Meeting was scheduled for July 10 with the Executive Director of top 5 largest Head Starts in the city.  The goal of the meeting was to gather input, feedback and their commitment on the implementation phase of the project

-DUAs were distributed at this meeting to solidify data and information sharing between DHD and participating Head Starts

-Outreach materials to parents were enhanced with new funding and will distributed weeks prior to each Head Start visit.
