Haakaa
The Haakaa is a milk collection device, not a breast pump. It is useful for catching extra milk during the milk ejection reflex. This extra milk can be used to create a fridge/freezer stash of breast milk. The device can also be useful to relieve full breasts. The Haakaa has been anecdotally demonstrated to cause engorgement.
- Staff issuing the Haakaa device must:
- Educate clients on the pros and cons.
- Understand signs and prevention of engorgement.
- Follow-up on with the client to assess issues/concerns.
