Protect Michigan’s Children (PMC): Actions to Prevent Childhood Lead poisoning
October 8, 2018 Facilitator introduced Primary Lead Prevention Screening Tool to IPH Staff for screening of clients. Facilitator also trained the Staff on usage of the Screening Tool monthly with ultimate goal for Screen (50 screens per month; 200 pregnant woman screens and 100 infant screens total)
October 15, 2018 Provided MDHHS lead prevention materials to Staff to share with pregnant women during screens,” Michigan Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program, Pregnant & Nursing Mothers”, and “Start Now Prevent Lead Poisoning”.
Screened 69 pregnant participants total to date.
October 19, 2018 Began calling clients to connect them with lead poisoning prevention services (blood lead tests, grants for home lead remediation, home water testing).
Participant on the MCEH CoIIN October 24, 2018 Webinar. Was a guest presenter on the September 2018 conference call with MDHHS Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program.
Objective # 1 First 3 months, recruit 4 pregnant women for the Focus Group to review draft Lead Primary Prevention Screening Tool for Pregnant Women.

Hired the Facilitator for the Focus Groups (June 1, 2018)
June 6, 2018, 60-minute Conference Call with HRSA to identify a national speaker for the provider training conference planned for April 2019. On the call were representatives from the following agencies:
• HRSA Bureau of Maternal Child Health
• HRSA Project Officer, Healthy Start
• Organization of Teratology Information Services Otis/ Mother to Baby
• HRSA Bureau Maternal Child Health
• Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs
• Project Director
June 13, 2018 received materials provided from the above agencies regarding current practices, guidelines, and protocols on when to test pregnant women for lead poisoning. Names and contact information provided to interview an expert speaker.
Facilitator and Project Director reviewed materials from HRSA and the representatives on the conference call. (June 20, 2018). The purpose of the materials was to understand what questions to ask to assess risk for lead exposure.
July 12, 2018 Facilitator and Project Director developed the informational flyer to recruit pregnant women for the Focus Groups.
Facilitator designing the Focus Group Sessions (questions, responses, pre test, post test for staff, and planning the date and time of the sessions , and recording the information.
