  • Held phone meeting on 10/10/2019.
    • Reviewed next steps for grant activities:
      • Continue to reach out to Child Care Centers to schedule day/time for training (possibly meet with families at pick-up times for kits)
  • Identify and contact ten child care centers:
    • Ten of ten centers identified and contacted. Waiting for return communication to schedule training in Crawford, Kalkaska, Manistee, Mason, Mecosta and Missaukee counties.
  • Set training dates with four of ten child care centers:
    • Oceana: 9/26/19
    • Lake: 10/7/19
    • Newaygo: 10/9/19

September 2019

  • Held planning meeting/work group on 08/09/19 and phone meeting on 09/09/2019.
    • 20 lead-safe cleaning kits assembled
    • All supplies for lead-safe cleaning kits ordered and received.
    • Identified providers in each county. Provided a mailing informing them WIC is using Lead Care II machines and WIC policy for screening for EBLLs, Michigan Medicaid provider recommendations for capillary to venous for EBLLs and “Quick Reference Guide” for providers.
    • Reviewed next steps for grant activities:

    • Submitted purchase requisition for supplies for remaining 25 lead-safe cleaning kits.
    • Discussed reaching out to staff in counties for the childcare providers that would be most beneficial to contact for education and to possibly meet with families at pick-up times for kits
    • Updated cleaning kit and HEPA vacuum use tracking tools.
    • Created one-page promotional flyer for day care centers to inform families of day/time of education and opportunity to receive lead-safe cleaning supplies if eligible.

  • WIC Director and northern program liaison attended Lead Education Day in Lansing on 03/14/2019. Met with legislators and discussed importance of lead-safe cleaning and early, universal lead screening.
  • NEMSCA (Frederic): Lead 101 training: 03/15/2019 cancelled. May reschedule if grant is extended.
  • Program liaison to attend Great Start Collaborative on the Lakeshore (Mason, Lake and Oceana counties) quarterly meeting 04/25/2019
  • 150 lead-safe cleaning kits have been distributed to home-visiting agencies and 108 at-risk families have been provided with lead-safe cleaning education and cleaning kits.

•             One HEPA vacuum use referral has been received to date (11/21/2018).

•             Lead-safe cleaning training was presented to NEMSCA (Crawford) on 11/19/18 and NEMCAA (Missaukee) on 11/27/18.

•             Program liaison attended and presented at the Head Start Health Advisory Committee Meeting and Prenatal to Five Years Local Interagency Coordinating Council (Muskegon and Oceana counties) on 12/04/18. Twenty committee members were present and received information about local grant activities and lead-safe education, cleaning and resources.

•             Reached out to home-visiting staff to follow-up on identifying clients eligible to receive lead-safe cleaning kits or use of HEPA vacuum.

o             Five Cap has been provided with 14 kits. Four referrals have been received to date.

o             Oceana County Early Head Start has distributed three of six kits provided to them to clients.

o             Oceana County Telamon distributed all five of the kits provided to them to clients.

o             NEMSCA (Crawford) has distributed one of six kits provided to them to a client.

o             NEMSCA (Mecosta) has been provided with one kit.

o             MMCAA (Mecosta) has been provided with one kit.

o             NEMCAA (Missaukee) has been provided with four kits.

•             Training scheduled with community health worker staff on 01/22/2019 from 9am-10am in Mason County.

•             Head Start/Early Head Start plan for all staff meeting training about Lead 101 and lead-safe cleaning in March 2019

•             Program liaison met with Newaygo MIHP staff via phone conference 12/06/18 during staff meeting.

•             Met with DHD#10 EBL case managers to discuss lead-safe cleaning education, cleaning kits and HEPA Vacuum use and coordination of services.

In July 2018, our project team convened in person once to review the activities and works in progress. See below summary.

  • Held meeting on 7-11-18 (see attached minutes)
  • Finalized power point and other resources that will be used for home visiting staff trainings (see attachment)
  • CLEEC staff presented the power point to DHD#10 WIC staff during staff meeting
  • Set dates for two trainings thus far; August 17 for DHD#10 home visiting staff and September 7 for Early Head Start staff (Oceana County)
  • Investigated and ordered 3 HEPA commercial vacuums. Vacuums were per recommendation by the State of Michigan Healthy Homes Representative.
  • Comparison shopped on line for clean kit supplies. We will order the first week of August 2018.
  • Comparison shopped for printing and copying of educational materials
  • Scheduled the next few planning meetings:  August 6, September 12, and October 18.

 

In June 2018, our grant project team convened and responsibilities/activities assigned based upon project timeline and deliverables. Much has been accomplished in just one month’s time. See below summary and attached draft forms and resources.
