Department of State takes action against additional driver education provider in Hamtramck
March 13, 2025
Second driving school in the city suspended this month
LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Department of State (MDOS) has summarily suspended the operations of Conant Driving School LLC, effective today, for alleged violations of the Driver Education Provider and Instructor Act (DEPIA). Conant is located at 10323 Conant Street in Hamtramck.
An investigation by MDOS staff found the provider failed to:
- maintain a record of the instruction given
- obtain a copy of a signed contract
- maintain a safe classroom facility at this location
Conant Driving School also allegedly misrepresented the quality and quantity of instruction by failing to use the prescribed curriculum. The school gave students a certificate of completion without them having to complete the required 24 hours of classroom instruction. MDOS is investigating additional records for violations.
MDOS inspects and investigates driver education providers and instructors to ensure compliance with DEPIA.
Anyone affected by the summary suspension should contact the MDOS Driver Education Unit at DriverEd@Michigan.gov or 517-241-6850 for additional information.
