KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and contractor Hoffman Bros. Tree trimming and utility work will require the right lane to be closed in each direction.

This $7.8 million project includes repaving West Main Street; adding one westbound lane from Drake Road to US-131; rebuilding the Maple Hill Drive intersection; storm water drainage; concrete curb, gutter and sidewalk; signs; signals; and pavement markings. Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 74 jobs.

The southbound US-131 exit loop ramp to eastbound West Main Street (Exit 38A) will be removed, while the existing ramp to westbound West Main Street (Exit 38B) will be expanded to include a left-turn for eastbound traffic.

The West Main Street traffic signal at 10th Street will be upgraded to include a left-turn phase.

Throughout construction, at least one lane of West Main Street will be open in each direction, with access maintained to businesses. There will be two-week ramp closures, with the dates of those closures shared with the public as soon as they are determined by the contractor.

The overall anticipated completion date for this project is Friday, Aug. 29.
