M-55 bridge replacement in Iosco County starts March 3

ALPENA, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will invest $4.6 million to replace the M-55 bridge over the east branch of the Au Gres River in Iosco County.

Traffic restrictions:
During the project, M-55 will be closed to all through-traffic at this location. Non-commercial traffic will be detoured on North Imperial Drive, Carpenter Road, and North Greenwood Road. Commercial traffic will be detoured on South Sand Lake Road, Whittemore Road, and M-65. Local access to residences and businesses on both sides of the bridge will be maintained.
Jobs numbers:
Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 44 jobs.
Safety benefit:
The new bridge will be built to modern safety standards with upgraded barriers and guardrails. The bridge will also be wider (44 feet with 10-foot-wide paved shoulders) for greater safety and comfort of all users.
