The Michigan Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) provides all persons (except persons incarcerated in correctional facilities) with access to public records of public bodies. Requests to inspect or receive public records from EGLE must be in writing and describe the requested records with enough detail to enable the department to identify and locate the requested records. Some records are exempt from disclosure under the FOIA or another statute and thus will not be provided. A fee may be charged to process your request. Please note that many records are available that do not require a formal FOIA request.

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy Air Quality Division (AQD) went live in MiEnviro Portal (MiEnviro) with dry cleaning and emissions reporting program areas in 2023. In December 2024 the AQD onboarded permitting and compliance reporting in MiEnviro.
The team working on the launch of these program areas included staff across the division. Countless hours were spent creating guidance and training staff internally before the system was open for external stakeholders. Air quality staff are striving to make the transition to MiEnviro as seamless as possible. Some facts about the launch of MiEnviro:

EGLE's Air Quality Division receives and evaluates hundreds of permit applications every year.
In 2024, the Environmental Assistance Center at EGLE provided live, one-on-one customer service to over 27K people.
Since opening in 2016, Jimmy John’s Field has become a major economic driver for the region, generating $13 million in capital investment and attracting more than 300,000 visitors per year. The stadium has also created 25 full-time and 120 part-time jobs. This project was made possible by a $1 million EGLE Brownfield Redevelopment Loan and an additional $800,000 from EGLE, which helped mitigate contamination so the site could be redeveloped.
Thirty projects receive funding to advance reuse, repair, and recovery of materials and grow markets for recycled materials
In 2024, EGLE developed 37 new features shared on its Maps and Data Portal.
