Locations
The Michigan Department of State (MDOS) currently provides statewide coverage of services. Wherever you are located, the mobile office will come to you. MDOS operates seven mobile offices that serve residents in:
- Southeast Michigan
- Macomb County
- Mid-Michigan
- Great Lakes Bay region
- West Michigan
- Northern Michigan
- Upper Peninsula
Overview and services offered
The SOS Mobile Office is a portable branch office that can be set up by branch staff at community organizations to assist residents locally with Secretary of State transactions.
Services offered by the Secretary of State Mobile Office include:
- ID issuance and renewal
- driver’s license renewal
- REAL ID issuance
- vehicle tabs and renewals
- title transfers
- disability parking placards
- license plates
- organ donor registration
- voter registration
Host requirements
The following are required for hosting the SOS Mobile Office at an event:
- Organization requirements: Hosting organizations must be nonpartisan. Ideal host organizations include communities, nonprofits, or organizations serving populations with limited access to SOS branch offices or the internet.
- Space: To accommodate a mobile office, a space must have:
- at least 15-20 feet of length and 6-10 feet of width
- at least one side against a wall or partition
- access to a 20-amp outlet within 25 feet
Indoor and outdoor setup is available (weather permitting). Setup includes portable countertops, signage, and branch office equipment.
- Parking and loading/unloading: A parking space for the mobile office must be provided for the visit. Loading and unloading access to the event space is required. Events not on ground level must have working elevator access or ramps. Must be accessible and compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Promotion: Hosting organizations must aid in promotion (raising awareness about the opportunity via flyers, emails, announcements, newsletter, scheduling, etc.) and preparation for the mobile office visit among the organization’s community and/or membership.

Mobile office visits are scheduled approximately 1-3 months out from the date of the event.
