M-59 resurfacing project in Highland and White Lake townships begins Tuesday, May 27

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be resurfacing M-59 between Milford Road and Pontiac Lake Road in Highland and White Lake townships in Oakland County. The $8 million project begins Tuesday, May 27, and requires single-lane closures along the nearly 10-mile stretch of M-59 for resurfacing, guardrail replacement, pavement markings, and upgrading sidewalks to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Work is expected to be finished in November.

"Across Michigan, we are moving dirt and fixing the damn roads to grow our economy, helping Michiganders go to work, drop their kids off at school and run errands safely," said Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. "By the end of this construction season, we will have fixed, repaired or replaced nearly 24,500 lane miles of roads and 1,900 bridges, supporting thousands of good-paying, local jobs without raising taxes by a dime. This year, let's build on our momentum to pass a bipartisan local road funding plan so we can keep fixing our damn roads and creating good-paying, local jobs."

Beginning at 7 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, crews will begin working on both directions of M-59 in 1 to 2-mile segments beginning at the west end of the project. Work will begin between Milford Road and Duck Lake Road, then crews will move east through the summer and fall.

Based on economic modeling, this project is expected to directly and indirectly support 76 jobs. Project information is available at www.DrivingOakland.com.
