M-72 East Trail Project public meeting in Grayling
The City of Grayling, Grayling Township, the Crawford County Trail Committee, and the MDOT are seeking public input on the planned M-72 East Trail Project. The City of Grayling is applying for a Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant and a Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund (MNRTF) grant to build the trail. Information will be provided in an open-house format, and participants are encouraged to attend at any time during the meeting schedule to provide comments.
Comments on the proposed project can be submitted online.
Accessibility:
Attendees who require mobility, visual, hearing, written, or other assistance for effective participation should contact Orlando Curry at 517-241-7462 or CurryO@Michigan.gov, preferably at least five business days prior to the scheduled meeting. Forms are located on the Title VI webpage. Requests made after this timeframe will be evaluated and honored to the extent possible.
Project information:
The proposed M-72 East Trail is a 1.8-mile shared-use pathway for bicycling and walking that will connect to the existing Iron Belle Trail at the I-75 Business Loop (BL) to M-72 and extend along the north side of M-72 from I-75 BL to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources’ (MDNR) Rayburn Property. This project would include a four-to-three lane reconfiguration on M-72 from I-75 BL to the I-75 overpass to make to make room for the pathway. If funded, this project is planned for construction in 2027.
A separate project planned for 2027 will widen the I-75 bridge over M-72 to accommodate the pathway. This project will improve access to natural areas for residents of the Grayling community and include connections to the Crawford County Commission on Aging’s Senior Center.
