The St. Marys River is an international border between Michigan's Upper Peninsula and Canada's Province of Ontario and connects Lake Superior to Lake Huron. The St. Marys Area of Concern extends approximately 70 miles in length from the head of the river at Whitefish Bay between Point Iroquois, downstream to De Tour Passage. Impairment of water quality, sediment, and biota has occurred due to contaminants from point source discharges from industry and municipalities on both sides of the St. Marys River.
