Ann Larson
Deputy Director
Ann Larson is deputy director for the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE).
In this role, Ann focuses on strategy and external relations, helping to guide EGLE’s policy direction and shape long-term goals and priorities in collaboration with the director and department leadership. She also plays a key role in positioning the department with the public and stakeholders, overseeing public-facing teams including the Office of Public Information, the Office of Legislative Affairs, and the public advocate offices helping to foster alignment across EGLE’s public engagement offices and regulatory divisions.
Ann brings more than 17 years of experience in environmental policy, external and intergovernmental relations, and cross-jurisdictional coordination. Prior to joining EGLE, she held leadership roles with the State of Washington, where she worked extensively in policy development, and legislative and tribal relations. She was a lead advisor on environmental, climate, and energy policy and played a key role in major restoration and resilience efforts across the state.
Her accomplishments include leading the Deschutes Estuary Restoration Project – one of the largest urban estuary restorations in the country – which is improving ecological conditions, meeting state water quality standards, enhancing climate resilience, and restoring recreational access. As part of this work, she led a multi-jurisdictional initiative to coordinate coastal resilience initiatives in South Puget Sound.
A wildlife biologist by training, Ann holds degrees in Biology and Anthropology from the University of Washington.
She was born and raised in Grand Rapids and is proud to bring her experience home to Michigan. In her free time, she enjoys rock climbing, mountaineering, and hiking with her three dogs.
