NOTICE: EGLE has reached an Agreement on the Discrimination Complaint regarding the licensing process of US Ecology Detroit North’s 2020 license.  As part of the Agreement, we will be updating the Materials Management Division’s Environmental Justice procedures, licensing procedures, and more.  Find updates on this complaint, including a copy of the Agreement, are available on our Grievance Procedures page.

US Ecology operates a hazardous waste storage and treatment facility located at 6520 Georgia Street in Detroit, Michigan.

The facility was first established in 1974, before hazardous waste handling and disposal operations were regulated under state or federal law.

The facility's license specifies the hazardous waste activities that US Ecology can perform at the facility.

US Ecology Detroit North's operating license was renewed on January 29, 2020.

The federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976, as amended, its rules, and the corresponding state hazardous waste regulations specify how the facility must operate to protect human health and the environment.  They also identify the authorities the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), Materials Management Division, has in licensing and overseeing the facility's hazardous waste operations.
