MI Hydrogen Hub

Truck Stop of the Future and Green Hydrogen Production

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy has been awarded funds to develop and deploy both a hydrogen production facility and hydrogen refueling station in Southeast Michigan.

In partnership with the American Center for Mobility, “Green” hydrogen produced in Ypsilanti, Michigan, will be shipped to Detroit where it will provide fuel for a small fleet of up to 15 Class 8 heavy-duty hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles performing short haul routes in and around Southeast Michigan.

This station in Detroit will be publicly accessible and is envisioned as one of the first hydrogen refueling stations deployed in a larger Midwest and national network serving medium and heavy-duty vehicles.

Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs Program

The Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs Program (H2Hubs) includes up to $7 billion to establish regional clean hydrogen hubs across America.

Part of a larger $8 billion hydrogen hub program funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the H2Hubs will form the foundation of a national clean hydrogen network that will contribute substantially to decarbonizing multiple sectors of the economy, like heavy industries (steel and cement production) and heavy-duty transportation.

Midwest Alliance for Clean Hydrogen

The Midwest Alliance for Clean Hydrogen is a multistate alliance of public and private entities who have joined together to grow the regional hydrogen value chain. This alliance includes carbon-free energy producers, national labs, leading universities, hydrogen technology providers, diverse hydrogen end users across sectors and environmental justice organizations who are committed to delivering clean hydrogen to power our communities and create a carbon-free economy.

With potential investments across Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, and Wisconsin, the Midwest Alliance for Clean Hydrogen has been established to promote commercially scalable projects that will stimulate clean hydrogen production and supply hydrogen end users across diverse sectors. The hub will produce tens of thousands of metric tons of hydrogen per year, with plans to grow over time as we develop a clean hydrogen economy. The hub partners have a shared commitment to a positive climate impact and decarbonization, safety, training, and workforce development. This includes a specific focus on historically disadvantaged communities.
