Richard Turner
Commissioner
Commissioner Richard W. Turner (D) of Monroe was appointed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer effective March 5, 2021, and reappointed Dec. 22, 2023.
Mr. Turner is currently the director of the Michigan Laborers-Employers Cooperation and Education Trust (LECET), a labor management fund that promotes the Michigan construction industry. He has 47 years of experience and knowledge of the Michigan construction industry, including road and bridge building.
Mr. Turner was first elected business manager for Laborers Local 465 in 1973, representing construction craft laborers in Monroe for 20 years. In 1993, he was elected secretary-treasurer for the Michigan Laborers District Council, representing 13,000 construction craft laborers, as well as serving on numerous boards and commissions. In addition to this work, he brings his 20 years of service as a Monroe County road commissioner to the State Transportation Commission.
Mr. Turner's commission will expire on Dec. 21, 2026.
