The Michigan Public Service Commission today launched a new video podcast that will dive into the detail of important energy and telecommunications issues, from utility rate cases and Michigan’s energy transition to efforts to expand broadband and boost electric reliability.

The MPSC’s podcast will be posted monthly and hosted by the agency’s Chief Operating Officer, Mike Byrne. Episodes will focus on timely energy and telecommunications issues. The podcast’s name is Behind the Meter — playing on an industry term that refers to the parts of energy systems located on the customer’s side of their energy utility meter.

The aim is to provide monthly conversation about issues that matter to Michigan energy and telecommunications customers.

“The MPSC has been working diligently to broaden public access to the Commission and provide information and resources in more accessible ways,” said MPSC Chair Dan Scripps. “The new podcast will give an inside look into the MPSC, and we’ll try to be interesting and informative as we discuss issues that matter to Michiganders about energy and telecommunications, two realms that are critical to modern life.”

The podcast is available online at the MPSC’s webpage.

The first two episodes have been posted:

  • Episode 1 serves as an introduction to the MPSC, with information about the agency and its history as well as background about Chair Scripps and Commissioners Katherine Peretick and Alessandra Carreon.
  • Episode 2 explores what the MPSC regulates and how its role has changed over the years, including insights from the MPSC’s longest serving employee, Paul Proudfoot, who’s been with the Commission since 1974.
