What is the deadline to apply?
PreK for All programs are run at the local level and enrollment processes and deadlines are set by the local Intermediate School Districts (ISDs). Most programs will enroll students through January or February of that school year.

What information do I need to apply?
You will need:
- Your driver’s license or documented ID
- Your child’s birth certificate or other proof of birth date
- Information about income, such as pay stubs
- A copy of your W-4 or W-9
This information is kept 100% private and is only used to prioritize low-income households.

If it’s free for all, why do I have to fill out information about my income?
The state prioritizes low-income households for enrollment, but the program is available and at no cost to ALL households, regardless of income.

If it’s free, does that mean it’s not as high-quality as private pay programs?
Michigan’s PreK for All program allows families to go to work each day knowing their child is in a high-quality, safe learning environment with caring adults. All teachers in the program have early childhood education credentials and training, are licensed, undergo background checks and receive professional development. The program offers small class sizes, allowing for one-on-one attention.

Is it safe for my child?
Classrooms in the PreK for All program are rigorously vetted by the state, and all facilities are inspected and licensed by the state. All staff and teachers are required to undergo background checks. PreK for All classrooms must also meet all state health and safety standards.

Why doesn’t my current child care provider participate in PreK for All?
Child care providers are not required to participate in PreK for All, and some choose not to take part.

What are Head Start and the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP), and how are they connected to PreK for All?
PreK For All is an umbrella program in Michigan that provides high-quality, no-cost PreK for all students. The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) and Head Start programs fall under the PreK for All initiative.
The Head Start preschool program is a federally funded early learning program for children ages 3 to 5 years old.
The Great Start Readiness Program is Michigan’s primary state-funded PreK program for children who are 4 years old by Dec. 1.
