Employer Filed Claims
-
Can you fax me confirmation that a claim was filed or a certification paid? The EFC unit cannot fax claim information. All claim information is available through the Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM). We strongly encourage you to direct employees to establish an account.
-
How can someone protest a decision?Protests must be submitted in writing by either mail, fax or MIWAM. The complete list of protest instructions and rights are on the claimant’s redetermination letters (UIA 1302).
-
John Doe answered a question wrong on MARVIN. Can we change it for him?We can only correct MARVIN questions with the claimant on the same day the certification is made, so the claimant will have to be in the office with you. To make changes after that day, including certifying for the wrong week, a request will need to be faxed to the EFC fax number.
-
John Doe's claim was not included on the file. How do I get it filed? The employer should call EFC at 1-855-484-2636, press 2; staff can update the file and generate the correct weeks of unemployment.
-
Should I instruct employees to certify in their third week of unemployment? No, while that is the most common schedule, claimants should always be directed to the information they have received from UI regarding their own personal claim.
-
What if I forgot to include a whole plant or shift when I submitted my file? When large groups of employees are missed, HR must submit the claims via the electronic file. HR should contact the EFC analyst if a file cannot be submitted.
-
What if John Does claim was denied because his address was wrong in your system? The claimant can update their address in MiWAM, but the address also needs to be updated with the employer.
-
What information should I have with me when I call?
When you contact EFC, please include the employee you are representing with you on the call and be sure to have the specifics of the issue. Here are some examples:
- Good – Jane Doe needs to be paid for a week of unemployment
- Better – Jane Doe needs to be paid for our first week of layoff
- Best – Jane Doe needs to be paid for the week ending 10/17/20 (UIA weeks are from Sunday to Saturday)
-
Who do I call for questions regarding EFC?If you have an issue with the electronic file, please call the EFC analyst or EFC manager directly.
If you are and employer calling to verify claim information (claim filing, benefits paid, issues closed, etc.) for your employee, call 1-855-484-2636 and select option #2.
