Overview:
Participants in this class learn adaptive skills of blindness to become independent in their self-care and personal space. Training focuses on the areas of personal hygiene, cleaning/laundry, organization/labeling techniques, time management, basic telephone use, handwriting skills, and notetaking for recording and retrieving information.
Overall Goal of Personal Management:
- Establish and maintain orientation in one’s personal space (i.e. dorm room)
- Demonstrate proficiency in personal hygiene/grooming habits
- Demonstrate effective cleaning skills
- Demonstrate proper use of laundry facility and related tasks
- Establish and develop proper means of organization and labeling of personal items
- Demonstrate time proficiencies using appropriate devices
- Managing communication needs independently (i.e. phone, apps, digital recorder)
- Establish signature and develop handwriting skills (if applicable)
