Outstanding National Service Program - The Michigan Education Corps
The Michigan Education Corps AmeriCorps program administered by Hope Network, utilizes 110 AmeriCorps members to provide language, literacy, and math-rich supplemental instruction in schools across Michigan at the preschool, elementary and middle school levels. AmeriCorps members assist students individually and in small groups providing supplemental reading or math interventions. Launched in 2012 with just four elementary schools, Michigan Education Corps has grown to serve annually more than 3,000 children in 80 schools across the state. Up to 95 percent of the students who receive Michigan Education Corps interventions exceeded the target growth rates for same grade peers. AmeriCorps members do so much more than teach children to read; they became a constant in their lives and show them daily that anything is possible.
