Bay City State Park - Fishing 101 Clinic
Dive into the basics of flat-water fishing! Learn different kinds of rods and practice on our lagoon pond. Topics include different bait types like frogs, poppers, Texas rigs and more. Students will practice casts on equipment around the center and on the waters of Tobico Lagoon. Class is designed for first-time anglers, and no equipment is required.
The class will start at the Saginaw Bay Visitor Center at 1 p.m. with an introduction to equipment, casting challenges and more. Later in the day, we will move to the water, when the day cools, and try our luck. Class will conclude with a fishing competition with prizes!
Cost is $45, which includes dinner and some starter lures.
To register for this class, go to Michigan.gov/DNRLicenses and click on the "Purchase a license" button. Sign in (using either a username and password or your ID and birthdate), and find the class under the Outdoor Skills Academy tab.
