Educator opportunities
Share your love of the outdoors with others as a seasonal explorer guide or nature educator! In these positions, you will have the opportunity to connect people to nature by leading field trips and educational programs highlighting Michigan’s natural resources.
These roles are great for college students, teachers and retired folks with an interest in educating others about parks, natural resources and outdoor activities. Applicants must have a high school diploma. College coursework in natural sciences, education, or parks and recreation is strongly recommended.
We offer paid training in hands-on environmental education activities and other core job skills for the positions. Program supplies are also provided.
Explorer guides: Seasonal state park educators
As an explorer guide, you will be responsible for providing explorer guide programming for visitors to our state parks this summer.
Position overview
- Choose from over 30 state parks as your preferred work location.
- Flexible scheduling for up to 40 hours per week between May and September.
- May qualify for academic or internship credit.
- Starting pay is $15.25 per hour.

Nature educators: Seasonal visitor center educators
As a nature educator, you will provide K-12 programming at a DNR visitor center or as part of the Nature Awaits program. Positions are available from spring through fall.
Position overview
- Spend your spring, summer or fall providing K-12 programming at a visitor center or fish hatchery.
- Flexible scheduling with eight to 29 hours per week.
- Starting pay is $15.50 per hour.
