MIWISH Grant Application and Instructions: MIOSHA Workplace Improvement to Safety and Health (MIWISH) Grant Application

We do not have a list of pre-approved items. All applications are reviewed on a case-by-basis to ensure the requested items and projects meet MIOSHA standards. Please contact the MIOSHA Grant Administrator if you have any questions regarding eligible items.

Employee count is based on Full Time Equivalent (FTE) count per federal Employer Identification Number (EIN).

A company must have a minimum of one employee employed with the company for at least one year prior to applying.

No, a company can only be awarded grant funding once per fiscal year. However, multiple projects can be included in one application. The fiscal year runs from October 1 to September 30.

Yes, previous MIWISH recipients/grantees are welcome to apply for a grant after January 1st of the new fiscal year (FY). This is to encourage new grantees to take advantage of this program.

Example: A company that receives grant funding in FY 2026 becomes eligible to apply again for FY 2027 funding on January 1, 2027. This eligibility rule applies only to the previous fiscal year. If the company applies for FY 2027 funding but is not awarded, their eligibility resets, and they may apply again on October 1, 2028.

Yes, to receive any state funds a company must be registered as a vendor in SIGMA VSS before submitting the application. Please see the website below for more information.

Grantees have 120 days to order, receive, and implement all equipment and/or projects.

Grantees must submit paid invoices or receipts, along with photos or videos of all approved equipment and/or projects, to LEO-CETGrants@michigan.gov before the end of 120-day contract period.

All invoices and receipts must be marked “PAID”, show a zero-balance due, or show the method of payment.

Please note: Copies of checks will not be accepted as proof of payment.

The safety and health hazard evaluation can be completed by one of the following:

• In-house safety professional.
• In-house employee safety and health committee (fill in report form and include minutes).
• Workers’ compensation carrier.
• Private safety and health consultant.
• Trade association.
• MIOSHA Workplace Safety Consultant (Safety and Health Consultant).

Please note: A project justification must be attached to your application along with the handwritten signature of the person who conducted the evaluation.

The review and approval process typically takes 3 to 4 weeks.
