MiLEAP Announces Grant Opportunities to Support Student Success at Colleges and Universities
February 14, 2025
New Grant Cycle Will Help Community and Tribal Colleges and Public Universities Increase Graduation Rates; Help More Students Earn a Skill Certificate or College Degree and Reach Michigan’s Sixty by 30 Goal
LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP) is now accepting applications for grants to support community and Tribal colleges and public universities in eliminating barriers and supporting students as they earn a skill certificate or degree. The grants are part of a larger $45 million Student Success initiative, the state’s largest-ever grant program aimed at increasing student success rates at higher education institutions across Michigan.
“MiLEAP is working hard to ensure every student in Michigan has the support they need to earn a skill certificate or college degree and have a path to a good-paying job,” said Dr. Beverly Walker-Griffea, director of MiLEAP. “By partnering with our state’s colleges and universities, we are helping to strengthen supports that empower students to overcome challenges, complete their education and build a strong future. These grants will help institutions remove barriers so that every student can achieve their educational and career goals.”
The initiative will help the state achieve its Sixty by 30 goal of 60% of adults with a skill certificate or degree by 2030 and ensure more Michiganders have the knowledge and skills they need to make it in Michigan.
“To achieve Sixty by 30, we are focused on access and student success,” said Michelle Richard, deputy director of Higher Education at MiLEAP. “The Student Success Grants encourage colleges to take a deep look at what’s working and where they can improve. These grants equip institutions with the necessary funding to expand support services, offer direct assistance and develop innovative approaches to increase student success. MiLEAP is proud to support our colleges and universities to ensure that every student – no matter their circumstances – has the support needed to stay on track, earn a skill certificate or college degree and pursue a meaningful career.”
The Student Success Competitive Grant Opportunities guide highlights the different categories of grants that will be available in 2025, focusing on research- and evidence-based solutions that improve student outcomes in critical areas such as course success, scaled remediation reform, student mental health supports, scheduling reform, program redesign and more.
MiLEAP will host weekly Tuesday office hours to support grant applicants beginning Feb. 18, from noon-1 p.m. and weekly Thursday office hours to support grant recipients with implementation and reporting requirements, beginning Feb. 20, from noon-1 p.m.
