How to Apply

We recognize that grant awards are smaller than they have been in the past due to the decrease in our program funding this year.

We are excited that we were able to reallocate funding from other sources to offer supplemental funds to grantees that spend 50% or more of their current grant award by May 19, 2025! We encourage grantees to continue buying local even if you are close to or already exceeding your current grant award.

To be eligible for supplemental funds, please make sure that you are up to date on submitting your September 2024-May 2025 10 Cents a Meal purchases in GEMS/MARS by Monday, May 19, 2025. Grantees that have not spent 50% or more of their current grant award by May 19, 2025, will have their grant award automatically decreased to make funds available for other grantees. Grantees will have the opportunity to amend their application after June 2025 to request a change to the automatic reallocation.

Failure to spend most of your 2024-2025 award may decrease the likelihood of receiving a future grant award as the percentage of your budget spent during 2024-2025 will be considered when reviewing your 2025-2026 application, with preference given to grantees who spend a high percentage of their award. This means that it is important that your 2024-2025 award reflect your actual capacity to buy and serve local food.

As you determine the best award amount for the remainder of the year, please include purchases that you plan to make through September 30, 2025, in your calculations. Additionally, remember that you can use up to 25% of your grant award to pay for delivery fees, mileage costs, and labor expenses that support the goals of the program. The purpose of these funds is to enable grantees to expand their ability to process local food, increase scratch cooking, and access new suppliers, new food products, and/or new partnerships with other Child Nutrition Program (CNP) sponsors to strengthen the local food supply chain.
