AP Free and Reduced Low-Income Exam Reimbursement Program

To remove the financial barrier to taking the Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams, the State School Aid Act of 1979 (MCL 388.1694) allocated $1.2 million dollars available to low-income students and their families. The law encourages students to take IB and AP courses and participate in the exams associated with these courses. These exams can translate into college credit, subsequently reducing college tuition costs. Exam rates for 2024-25 will continue to be $5.00 per exam for students.

The College Board Exam Fee Reduction Process for all related College Board Exams; including the CLEP, AP Seminar, and AP Research Exam; designates that the MDE will be invoiced directly from the College Board. Districts are required to sign and send to the State a copy of their College Board invoice to verify billing for those students who qualify for reduced-fee Exams.
