Transferring Credit

  • Local districts decide all policies and practices regarding the transferring of credits from different high schools. Credits do not automatically transfer from one school to another and each district in Michigan is responsible for assessing student learning to grant credits. Courses across high schools are often not equivalent, furthermore courses are not the requirement for graduation. Proficiency on state standards determines credits towards meeting the Michigan Merit Curriculum. Districts also each have different cut-scores and proficiency rates that they accept as “passing”.

    District are encouraged to use transcripts and school records along with assessment protocols to place students and grant credits toward meeting the MMC requirements. See testing out.
