City of Ishpeming
The City of Ishpeming strives to advance its goal of providing superior support to residents, workforce, and their families, enabling them to thrive and to grow as a community. This is accomplished through deliberate strategies that include workforce development and recruitment, quality of life improvements, fostering community ties, and providing services for every stage of life.
The City of Ishpeming has partnered with a community nonprofit, Partridge Creek Farm (PCF), which provides additional community services through shared a shared mission and goals for a vibrant, healthy, and connected Ishpeming community. The PCF has a vision of a whole community that grows and eats nutritious, local, and equitably produced food, and cares for themselves, the earth, and each other. The new Community Center funded though the MI Community Centers
Grant will provide an opportunity for the City to provide increased food and community-focused programming through PCF, as well as a recreational gathering space and skate park in the nationally registered historic district/downtown center. PCF will scale Farm-to-School programming, their continued stewardship of community gardens (in collaboration with residents and volunteers), and access to hands-on experiential learning all ages. PCF programs help reduce food insecurity, support food-based economic development, and create sustainable food systems throughout the community, especially for low-income and at-risk residents.
Additionally, the skate park will provide a new, highly desired skating park that will attract residents and visitors alike and will include some additional space which allows for community gatherings such as a farmers' market, equipment demonstrations, and other community-focused activities.
