Boys and Girls Club of Alpena
Boys and Girls Club of Alpena
The Boys and Girls Club of Alpena has been a youth serving organization in Northeast Michigan since 1926. They serve over 1500 youth in the community through youth development programs, free daily food program and other resources for families. The Club’s mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need the club most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens. The organization provides an inclusive, positive, educational, safe and fun environment for all youth to come to grow and learn. Throughout the club’s history within the community, they have met their member's individual needs and promoted positive youth development by understanding the needs and continuously expanding their services to provide programming that benefits the needs of the youth and their families.
The MI Community Center Grant will allow the organization to continue expanding services to the members and their families by offering social emotional services and resources to those who are in need. By adding this service to the organization, they further expand their impact within the community. The goals with these services are to reduce emotional distress experienced by youth they serve, help meet basic needs of their families, and help improve the academic success of youth through informal learning after school and throughout the summer. With increased attendance, the need for social emotional services has become vital to the club’s programming and youth they serve. The MI Community Center grant is vital to the implementation of these services.
