Athletes Learning Educational Resources Training (A.L.E.R.T.) was founded in May of 1986, based on a conceptual model wherein concerned citizens could help young students face reality and comprehend the necessity of understanding the important of academic excellence and pursuing that goal. A.L.E.R.T.’s mission is to provide a free service to help students and community become aware of education's importance. Goals are to identify students’ deficiencies, improve overall scholastic skills and to provide counseling.
The need for programs like A.L.E.R.T. addresses basic skill needs of our youth is well documented by standardized test results from schools throughout Michigan and the United States. Unfortunately, a lack of needed funding to underwrite the cost of tutoring and counseling is a major reason so many students are unable to realize their higher education goals. Many students and parents, additional challenges occur for students when they seek college admission and must complete applications.
A.L.E.R.T is looking to redevelop the Community Arts and Hudson Auditorium building at the Michigan State Fairgrounds. The proposal provides an innovative combination of education and technology.
