MI Dept of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Announces Mobile Home Community Inspection Team
January 29, 2025
LANSING, MI – The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) has created a new team focused on improving the living conditions of mobile home parks and communities. The mobile home community inspection team will serve as the direct point of contact for and work directly with these communities to make sure that mobile home parks are compliant with State of Michigan standards.
The Bureau of Construction Codes (BCC) formed the team to address the growing need for improved mobile home park standards and ensure the health and safety of residents. Team members took over inspection responsibilities in August 2024 and have already developed positive relationships with mobile home park communities.
“One of the most important responsibilities we have here at LARA is to ‘educate before we regulate,’” said BCC Director Andrew Brisbo. “We believe that this team’s efforts will not only help keep mobile home communities safer, but also help educate residents and property managers.”
Inspectors on the team have created educational materials to help provide insight into the mobile home compliance process. This includes a letter given to owners and managers ahead of inspection, along with a “what to expect” video presentation that will soon be available online. BCC’s dedicated inspectors will coordinate with the licensing and enforcement teams to facilitate more efficient and effective renewal and investigation processes.
While safety and compliance remain the primary focus of the mobile home inspection team, they also hope to achieve long-term partnerships in regulatory education and compliance with mobile homeowners across Michigan.
More information on mobile home regulations and further resources specific to the inspection process can be found on the BCC mobile homes site.
