Lake Man Sentenced for Second-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct

LANSING – Last Friday, Roland Bourgeois, 56, of Lake, was sentenced by Judge Tara Hovey in the 55th Circuit Court in Clare County to 50 months - 24 years’ incarceration on two counts of Second-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct. Bourgeois was found guilty by a Clare County jury in November 2024 and sentenced as a fourth habitual felony offender.

In 2018, Bourgeois committed multiple acts of criminal sexual conduct on a child relative, including forcing her to touch his genital area. The victim did not disclose these crimes until 2023, to a school counselor, in part because Bourgeois repeatedly told her not to tell others what had happened.

“This prison sentence is possible thanks to the tireless efforts of Child Protective Services, the Michigan State Police, prosecutors in my office, and the victim’s courage to come forward,” Nessel said. “My office remains committed to working with our partners to hold accountable sexual assault perpetrators and support their victims.”

This matter was investigated by Child Protective Services and the Michigan State Police. The Department of Attorney General led this prosecution at the request of the Clare County Prosecuting Attorney.
