Nessel Announces Personnel Changes at AG's Office
February 10, 2020
LANSING – Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced today that DJ Pascoe, her office’s Opinions Division chief, will assume the position of Chief Legal Counsel following the departure of Suzanne Sonneborn, who has accepted an appointment by Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Director Orlene Hawks.
Pascoe has been with the Michigan Department of Attorney General for 21 years. Prior to working as Opinions Division chief, he served as first assistant attorney general for the Corporate Oversight Division and as a member of the Opinion Review Board. A graduate of Wayne State University Law School, Pascoe has worked in several practice areas within the department, including public employment, elections, education, insurance, antitrust and consumer protection. He will take on his new responsibilities Feb. 24
“DJ’s knowledge of various legal sectors and his experience at this department will provide a smooth transition for my office internally,” Nessel said. “Although Suzanne is incredibly difficult to replace, I’m confident DJ will excel in this new role.”
Sonneborn will serve in Whitmer’s administration as executive director of the Michigan Office of Administrative Hearings and Rules, within the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
“Suzanne has been an invaluable member of our team, and we will miss her,” Nessel said. “I wish her well and I’m sure she will continue to serve our state admirably in her new position.”
Sonneborn’s final day at the Attorney General’s office is Friday. She will start her new position Feb. 24.
