General

To enhance public safety and meet the Department's need for additional secure beds to house parole violators and for programming in southeastern Michigan, the Department converted Macomb Correctional Facility (MRF) Housing unit 6 to the Macomb Parole Violation Unit (MPVU). MPVU is to house male only parolees who are required, as a special condition of parole, to participate in and satisfactorily complete programming as well as parolees who are believed to have violated a condition of parole and are being considered for parole violation revocation proceedings or other appropriate response (e.g., parole violation custody sanction).

Programming

The programs offered at the Macomb Parole Violation Unit are Michigan Domestic Violence Programming (MiDVP) and Courage 2 Change.

Health care is provided at the prison, or at the Duane L. Waters Health Care in Jackson or local hospitals in the event of emergencies.

Security

The perimeter of the prison is enclosed by two, 12-foot galvanized chain link fences topped with coiled stainless steel razor wire.  A third 12-foot galvanized chain link fence topped with coiled stainless steel razor wire provides a buffer between the prison property and perimeter road.  The entire boundary of the prison property is clearly marked with signage that gives notice of Prison Property, Do Not Enter and the entire perimeter contains an electronic detection and camera system which enhances public safety.
