Attorneys General Nessel and Mayes Discuss America’s Conservation Crisis in Latest Episode of Pantsuits and Lawsuits

LANSING – In the latest episode of their recently launched podcast, Pantsuits and Lawsuits, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes sound the alarm on the environmental crisis unfolding across America.

The attorneys general reveal the shocking reality behind recent cuts from the Trump Administration – multiple-hour wait times at national parks, visitor centers forced to close, and safety concerns mounting as essential personnel disappear. Joining the conversation are environmental experts Lisa Wozniak of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters and Vania Guevara of Chispa Arizona, who share frontline perspectives on how these federal actions directly harm local communities and ecosystems.

“From the Grand Canyon to the Great Lakes, our national treasures face unprecedented threats as the Trump administration slashes funding, terminates National Park Service employees, and rolls back critical environmental protections, and our communities are paying the price,” Nessel said. “We were grateful to have Lisa and Vania join us to shed light on the real-world impacts of these federal actions.”

The discussion also tackles the economic devastation facing rural communities dependent on park tourism, the disproportionate impacts on communities of color, and the strategic communication needed to build environmental consensus across political lines. Despite the federal retreat from climate leadership exemplified by the Paris Climate Accord withdrawal, the episode highlights hope through state-level action and grassroots advocacy. Attorney General Nessel’s work to protect Michigan’s natural resources has earned her an “A” rating from the Michigan League of Conservation Voters.

New episodes of Pantsuits and Lawsuits are released biweekly, which break down complex legal topics in a way that is engaging, informative, and accessible to listeners. With their blend of expertise, humor, and straight talk, the attorneys general explore major legal cases, analyze state and national policy debates and discuss how attorneys general help shape justice. Through these discussions, listeners will gain a behind-the-scenes look at the work attorneys general do to serve and protect their communities.
