Debt Collectors
Debt collectors are hired by creditors to collect debt that is delinquent. Such delinquent debt can be reported to credit agencies by debt collectors.
- Must stop contacting you if you send them a letter within 30 days of receiving written notice of a debt;
- State that you do not owe the money and provide copy of documentation supporting along with police report;
- Ask for copy of credit application and signature of accounts they claim belong to you; and
- After resolving debt from a debt collector, you must also resolve the debt with the entity where the account originated.
